Compton Unified School District (CUSD) believes in the power of parent involvement and its ability to strengthen efforts to increase student achievement.  At the District’s board meeting on Tuesday, January 28, over 15 parents were recognized for their successful completion of the three-level “Project 2 Inspire” curriculum, which was sponsored by the California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE).

Through “Project 2 Inspire” parents learned how to navigate through the educational system and are now equipped with the knowledge to train other parents at various school sites.

Ramon Zavala, Ed.D., senior director of Accountability, Instruction and English Learners said Compton’s children are sure to benefit from having parents engaged in the training curriculum.  “Students whose parents are well informed on how to properly navigate through the educational system are better prepared.  Their parents will be able to assist them in being more career minded and college oriented.  These parents will also have the knowledge to guide their children in their studies, but also advocate for them with the appropriate tools whenever necessary.”
