A woman who appeared to be homeless died outside the Los Angeles Police Department’s downtown headquarters Wednesday.

The woman was spotted by an officer about 9 a.m. on the Second Street side of the property, which takes up an entire block that is also bordered by First, Spring and Main streets.

An officer gave the woman CPR until firefighters arrived, witnesses told the Los Angeles Times, which operates out of a building located less than a block away.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, alongside a grassy area that serves as a non-fenced dog park and is ringed by several benches. Homeless people often congregate or attempt to shelter in the area.

Her name, age and cause of death were not immediately available.
