Orthodox LA Gallery and The Phoenix Salon will celebrate African American History Month with two educational and enlightening contemporary art exhibitions.

Sponsored by What’s Ya Vibe Creative Agency, the interactive pop-up presentations will throughout February until March 6 and feature works by more than 20 multicultural, multi-media artists.

According to curator Shay Renee, Orthodox LA will host, “The Tower of Light – Where You Learn About the Harlem Renaissance Today,” in its studio located at 2712 W. 54th St. in Los Angeles.

The exhibit will display the works of iconic figures such as performer Josephine Baker and painter Aaron Douglas through photography, NFTs and other other forms of visuals.

Ten percent of all proceeds will be donated to the Amazing Grace Conservatory.

“This show is a look back in time to encourage our society to continue to push forward in a time of uncertainty.

World-renowned and emerging artists have collaborated to show pieces that display Black in all its beauty,” explained Shay Renee.

“This immersive set has work shown through retro view masters, a telescope, a kaleidoscope, film and more. Also, attendees have the option of listening to playlists and original work by artists through cassette and CD players along with vinyl LPs while viewing the exhibit,” she added.

The Phoenix Salon exhibition, which commemorates the Black hair experience, will be held at Harun Coffee, 4336 Degnan Blvd., in the Leimert Park business district of Los Angeles.

The display, dedicated to the popular Sisters N Hair Beauty Salon of the 1990s and early 2000s, will emphasis the creativity affiliated with hairstyles, art and Black history.

“Through denim wigs, customized hair clippers and chandeliers made out of combs, this hair experience merges hair and inner expression, not only through the artist's physical bodies, but through media as well,” Shay Renee said.

The participating artists are Tyger, Isis Dua, Adu Dua, Stephanie Godoy, NK, Ashanti Bruce, Jonah Elijah, Devin Mercadel, Nnylak, Ashé Plummer, Jas Parker, Perri Danielle, Bob Flowers, Yedidiyah Butterfly, Haught Files, Jose Camacho, Shalandrea Houchen, Tuff Like Iron, Shaka Man, Aujene Reves, Morgana Van Peebles, JT and Fernando Garcia.
