Council District Eight Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson has partnered with Keep it Run Hundred to bring the 2nd Annual 5K Run/Walk in South Los Angeles.

The event will happen on Saturday, March 12, at St. Andrews Recreation Center, 8701 S. St. Andrews Place in Los Angeles. Pre-Run/Walk activities begin at 8:00 am.

Registration is free at: KIRHCD8.Eventbrite.com

The run/walk activity will have something for everyone. Fit by Ash will offer a dynamic strength training class, and Tree Yoga will lead an all-level class for those who enjoy the mental and physical balance this practice brings. Friends, family and pets are welcome. The event will feature music, games, food and more.

“LA Marathon runners -- come and join the best run club in the city, Keep It Run Hundred, and get a quick warm-up. Sigma Gamma Rho members have volunteered to ensure a smooth event! If you missed our last neighborhood 5K, don’t miss this one,” said a spokesperson.

According to CD 8 staff, this activity and many more have been planned not only to support the social infrastructure of the community, but also to invite the community to engage with the Western Avenue Reimagine Project.

“In collaboration with the Department of Transportation, this 4.5-mile project reaches from Martin Luther King Boulevard to Century Boulevard. It will make it easier for drivers to access businesses, restaurants, parks, and churches along the avenue. In addition, proposed changes to the corridor, suggested by the community, will make it safer for bicyclists, drivers, youth, and elders,” the spokesperson said.

Representatives from the Council Office and L.A. DOT will be available for questions and to discuss survey results from the community engagement survey before or after the run/walk.
